Dermatagraphism

What is dermatagraphism, you ask? I had never heard of it until we took Alex to the doctor because of this funky rash he had. He had a rash or welts anywhere we touched him or if he would rub up against something he would get all rashy.

The doctor took one look at him and said, "dermatagraphism." I had to ask Taun several times to tell me what the dr. called it because I could never remember how to say it.

When we looked it up it said, "dermatagraphism; the ability to write on skin."

That is exactly what we could do, write words on his skin (barely touching him) and seconds later he would have a welt in the form of whatever word we wrote.

There is no cure for it and all you can do is give them antihistamines. Alex gets Claritin during the day and Benadryl at night. Sometimes it gets really itchy and he just scratches and then it gets worse. Poor kid!

That's so sad that it's all itchy. It must be the month for skin conditions, Xander's had a doozie of one for almost the past 3 weeks. It's called HSP, but his will go away. I've been meaning to blog about it. Maybe I'll get to is soon.
I hope Alex feels better soon.

That is similar to what happens to Tayah in the summer time. They called in contact dermatitis. They just gave us some prescription cream to put on when it flares up.
